Itching is a common annoying problem due to various reasons. Due to an insect bites, change in the weather conditions, allergies, exposure of skin to harsh chemicals present in soaps and other cosmetic products), or infections it may strike you. But do not worry, it can be cured with the simple home remedies as follows.

Home remedies to treat itching skin
Baking soda is a good remedy to treat the itchy skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties through which it cures the itching sensation. Take two tablespoons of baking soda and mix with one tablespoon of water and make a paste. Apply this paste on the itchy skin area and leave it for about 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with normal water and pat it dry. Be careful while dealing with baking soda, do not use it on the broken skin areas or on the wounds.
The antioxidant compounds present in the oatmeal show the effects of soothing and anti-irritant. For the best results, use unprocessed oatmeal flour. Mix two or three tablespoons of unprocessed oatmeal flour with enough water and apply it over the skin area which is prone to itching. Cover that skin area with a cloth and hold it for about 30 minutes. Rinse off with water and pat it dry with a smooth cloth to get relief from itching.
Both the itching sensation and cold travel through the same nerve cells. So applying cool water on the itching skin will treat the problem effectively and quickly. Take few ice cubes and wrap them in a cotton cloth. Now slide it front and back on the skin for a few minutes. You can also try washing your itchy skin with cool water, but remember do not use too cold water.
One of the Ayuvedic ways to treat the itchy skin is aloe vera. It has many medicinal properties and can be used to treat various skin problems including rashes, burns, itching and allergies. Cut a tentacle from aloe vera plant and separate the gel from it. Apply it on the itching area and leave it for a few minutes and then rinse off. If you do not have a plant then get the aloe vera gel from your nearby drugstore.
Essential oils with their anti-inflammatory properties helps to soothe the skin by which you will get relief from the itching sensation. Any essential oil like basil oil, geranium oil, chamomile oil, Calendula oil and Agrimony oil will work effectively. Take few drops and apply it on the affected area or blend it with the bath water and have a relaxing bath.
The antiseptic properties of citric acid and acetic acid present in the lemon works effective in the reduction of the itches. Lemons are also known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Squeeze half a lemon and apply a dash of it on the affected area, let it get dry and then wash off with cold water. Hence it is a good way to calm down the itching sensation in the home.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar have best antiseptic, anti-itching, antifungal and antibacterial properties. This helps to reduce itching. Take 2 – 3 cups of acv and add it in lukewarm water. Soak your body in this water for about 15 – 30 minutes. Pat your skin dry and apply suitable moisturizer. Repeat it daily for better results.
Alternatively, ACV is best for affected area by applying it using a cotton ball. Leave it for about 30 minutes. Rinse them well with lukewarm water. Repeat the process 1 – 2 times a day for a few days.
Basil leaves are used to get rid of itchy skin. Basil has high amount of eugenol, a potent essential oil, and topical anesthetic. It also adds compounds called camphor and the thymol that is effectively combat itching. Add one tablespoon of dried basil leaves to two cups of boiling water. Cover the pan for a few minutes and then allow the mixture to cool. Apply this on the affected area by using a cotton cloth. Then, remove the remaining solution in a jar for later use. Repeat the process as often as necessary.
Another method, crush a few basil leaves and rub them directly on the affected skin. Allow it to dry for some time before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. Repeat many times as needed for relief.
Clay helps with itching and other skin problems such as acne. It helps to heal venomous stings and bites, like from bees, wasps and spiders. It helps to remove venom out of the skin and will relieve the pain and let the sting heal more quickly. Take a cup of clay and mix the clay in a bowl with filtered water to form a thick paste. It’s like a peanut butter. Then dab the clay paste onto itchy areas and let it dry. Rinse it or peel it off.
