Facial hairs are not uncommon even in women. In fact, most of our body parts remain covered with thin layer of hairs, which might not be even noticeable normally. However, when these hairs become thicker and their color differs from that of the natural skin tone they start to become more prominent and visible, which can be a big issue particularly for women. Causes for facial hair
In many cases more and thicker facial hairs in women are caused due to genetics. There is also a condition named Hirsutism, which can lead to overgrowth of facial hairs in women. Hirsutism is caused due to hormonal imbalance in the body and can be treated through medication. However, more and thicker facial hairs do not necessarily indicate to hirsutism.
Whatever might be the reason of over growth of facial hairs, it can give any women an unsightly look. Opting for laser therapy is often considered as a permanent solution from the problem, but it is expensive and doctors are not still confirmed about its long term side effects.
Home remedies for facial hair removal
Gram flour, mustard oil, papaya and aloe vera
Take 1/4 tablespoon gram flour, 2 tablespoon mustard oil, and 4 tablespoon Aloe Vera gel, 1 tablespoon papaya paste, and 2 drops of oil. Mix the dough properly and then apply that paste on the face and skin properly. Then leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and wait for the dry skin. Take a cotton cloth dry and now scrub off that paste gently in the opposite direction of growing hair. After that, wash through the cold water and make dry. Then apply your moisturiser on your face. Do this technique 3-4 times every week.
Gram flour and almond oil
Take some gram flour and almond oil. Take a bowl and mix the powder with oil completely well and then use that mix on your face and leave it till it becomes dry. You can wait for 5 to 10 minutes easily. After dry, scrub your skin with the wet fingers and wash it with normal water or cold water. Then take a pure cotton cloth and soak your face completely. Do this technique weekly 2-3 times.
Orange peel and lemon
The oil extracted from the oil help to cleanse the skin smoothly. And if people use orange peel and lemon both together, it works as bleaching. It removes the extra hair from the skin easily. Take some orange and lemon peel and grind it completely. With that powder, add some almond and oatmeal. Stir the mixture well and add some rose water with olive oil and make a good paste. Use this paste on your face and the skin where extra hair available. Leave that place for 5 to 10 minutes. After that, wash with normal water. Use this process weekly twice and get the better result.
Oatmeal and banana
Take a mixture of ½ spoon oatmeal and 1 ripe banana, mash it and form a thick consistent paste. Now, apply it evenly throughout your face and neck where you would want to remove the facial hair effortlessly. Wash your face with lukewarm water and always rub against the direction of hair growth to get rid of it. Oatmeals are a great source of rich antioxidants and help in reducing redness, itching and helps in giving you a soft, supple and hydrated smooth skin. Oatmeal also has humectant properties which helps in retaining moisture. It works well for all skin types, however do not use it excessively.
Oatmeal, honey and lemon juice
Take about ½ cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of honey and ½ cup of lemon juice. Mix all these ingredients and apply the heavenly mixture on your face and neck. Always rub against the direction of hair growth so as to remove the hair swiftly. Oatmeals helps in smoothening the skin which otherwise can be damaged due to waxing. Lemon is a great exfoliator and will give your skin a lighter complexion, ensure you do not mix excess of lemon juice which can make your skin look dull and flaky. Honey softens and brightens your skin by tightening the tissues and acting as an anti-ageing role.
Green gram flour and rose water
Like chickpea flour, green gram flour is also a great agent of removing facial hair at ease. Rose water further soothes the acne prone skin. In a mixture of 2 cup rose water, mix about one and one-half spoon of green gram flour, now mix this until you get a thick consistent paste. Apply it all over your face, rub against the direction of hair growth and finally, dab some facial oil to your face for a glowing skin.
Egg white, sugar and cornstarch
Take about 2 egg whites, 1 cup cornflour and ½ cup of sugar. Now, separate egg white from the yolk. Add cornflour and sugar to the egg whites and whisk it till it forms a thick consistent paste. Apply this evenly on your face and let it dry for about 15-30 minutes. This might be a bit painful, however, wax strips are just intolerable. Egg whites are a sticky adhesive thin layer that aids in removing facial hair smoothly, sugar is also similar as it sticks and functions while the cornflour gives a thick, smooth and consistent mixture. This face mask is not suitable for acne -prone skin since it can result in clogging of the pores and therefore, enhance the breakout possibility.
Papaya, mustard oil, aloe vera, gram flour and turmeric powder
Take about 1 teaspoon of mustard oil, 2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, ½ teaspoon of gram flour, 2 drops of any essential oil, a dry cloth and voila, mix all these ingredients together. Now, apply it evenly on your skin and leave it to dry. Start rubbing the dry cloth in a direction against the hair growth and pat your skin dry with cold water. Further, you should pat some drops of olive oil, argan oil or any other essential oil. Indian nettle and turmeric powder
Take a handful of Indian Nettle leaves and pour about ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder. Now, apply it consistently throughout your face and neck and let it stay overnight. Wash it off next morning. This can induce redness and itching in case you’re allergic to this. You should always make a paste for Indian nettle leaves by grinding the leaves. Indian Nettle when mixed with turmeric powder penetrates in the skin and results in thinning of hair. Turmeric anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties give way to fight against the allergies and infections of skin.
Lavender and tea tree oil
In a teaspoon of lavender oil, mix about 4 to 5 drops of tea tree oil and apply this aromatic mix on your face to get rid of unwanted facial hair. A majority of women suffer from excessive hair growth and terminal hair on androgen-dependent body parts like breasts and chin etc. This condition is called as hirsutism. Women suffering from hirsutism can lead to the hair growth on face, chest, back and therefore, just like their male counterparts, women also have hair problems. Lavender and tea tree oil have anti-androgenic properties, and therefore, when applied topically, it will help in reducing the hair growth.
Lentils, potato, honey and turmeric
The constituents in the potato will strip of the root of the hair and make your skin lighten up. The lentils will be an added advantage to the process. You can also add some honey and turmeric to reap all the skin benefits at one face pack.
Barley and milk with lemon juice
Take a bowl and add one tablespoon of barley and milk with lemon juice. Make a paste of all these ingredients and leave it for 30 minutes. Then wash off the dirt with lukewarm water. You will be able to see the removal of facial hair.
Spearmint, honey and sweet cream
Take a handful of spearmint leaves and add 4.5 cups of water. Then mix honey and sweet cream into it. Mix the ingredients well and pour water into the container. Boil all these ingredients thoroughly. You can drink this portion twice a day.
Black cohosh and honey
Take 1.5 grams of dried black cohosh root and add 1 tablespoon of honey to it. Then, boil these ingredients in 0.5ltr cup of water. Drink it twice a day like you would drink and.
Sugar, honey and lemon
A mixture made from sugar, honey and lime juice can be an effective treatment to get rid of the unwanted facial hairs and with regular use of this treatment you are sure to get permanent results.
Mix 2 spoons of sugar with 1 spoon of lime juice and let the sugar granules dissolve slightly. Now add 1 spoon of honey to the mixture and apply the resultant pack on your face in thick layers. Let the pack set for at least 15 minutes or until it gets 80% dry. Now wet your fingers and rub your face with the pack for 2-3 minutes. Finally remove the pack with a soft cotton cloth. You can also damp the cloth in water if the pack seems to be too sticky to be removed by the dry cloth. Chickpea flour & turmeric paste
Chickpea flour can work as an effective ingredient for removing unwanted facial hairs. Turmeric on the other hand, helps in lightening the color of the hairs and also helps in controlling unnatural hair growth.
To make this pack, take 2 inch of fresh turmeric root and grind it to make a paste. Take 2 tablespoons of chickpea flour and add sufficient warm water to it to make a thick and sticky paste. Now add the turmeric paste to the mixture and use this pack on your face. Once the pack dries 60%, start scrubbing your face with the pack in slow circular motion, until the pack gets fully dry. Finally remove the pack with a damp piece of cotton cloth. At the beginning, you should use this treatment on every alternate day or 3 times a week and you can reduce the frequency of use as the hair growth slow down.
Alum, coconut oil & rosewater treatment
Alum, Coconut oil and Rosewater can make a great combination for removing unwanted hairs and also to reduce the growth of new hairs, helping in proving permanent solution. If you have sensitive skin, it is recommended to opt for a patch test before you use this treatment.
Add 1 spoon of powdered alum with 3 spoons of rose water. Add a few drops of coconut oil to it. The oil will nourish the skin and replenish any dryness caused by the alum. Dab a clean cotton ball in the resultant mixture and dab the solution on your face. Once it gets 90% dry, follow with the second layer. You should repeat the layering process at least for 15 -20 minutes. After that, wash off with excess water. Alum can also retard the growth of new hairs, helping in providing long term solution. You can use this treatment 3 times max in a week to start with and then reduce the frequency as you go.
Onion & basil treatment
A mixture made from onion and basil leaves is believed to be highly effective in removing as well as controlling unwanted facial hairs. The formula is also good for your skin and can make an effective treatment for acne prone skin.
Collect the thin membranes of onions and crush them to make a paste. You will need 2 spoons of this paste. Now take 10 basil leaves, wash them clean and make a paste. Mix the two and apply the resulting paste onto your face and let it stand for 20 minutes. Finally wash off the pack with plenty of water. You need to continue this treatment every alternate day till you notice that the growth of unwanted hairs has actually reduced.
Masoor dal, honey & milk
Masoor dal or red lentil is considered as one of the most effective ingredients for exfoliating the skin and removing the unwanted hairs from the face. When mixed with honey, it helps in removing the excess hairs and also controls unwanted hair growth over time.
Soak a handful of masoor dal in milk for 1 hour. Now make a paste with it and add 1 spoon of honey to the pack. Rub your face with this pack in circular motion and then let it set for 10 minutes. Now, scrub your face with the dry pack again and finally remove it with the help of a soft cotton cloth. Wash off and pat dry. Repeat 3 times a week.
Egg, corn flour and sugar scrub
