What causes dark circles under the eyes?
Periorbital dark circles that usually appear bluish and are more prominent after waking up in the morning are often a result of the thin under eye skin that shows the blood carrying vessels in this area more clearly than any other place of the body. As we age, the skin loses its regeneration capacity and becomes even thinner, resulting in deepening of the bluish dark circles.
However, on the Asian skin tone the bluish dark circles are not very common; it is the brownish dark circles around the eyes that make our life difficult. This condition is more accurately described as periorbital hyperpigmentation, caused due to more melanin production in the skin surrounding the eyes. Dark circles under the eyes are often hereditary and in this case you have nothing much to do except trying to lighten the skin color of this area by applying proper treatments.
The skin around the eyes is only 0.5mm thick compared to the 2mm skin thickness in most of the other parts of the body, and hence anything hectic that you do be it a long working day, some long hours under the sun without your sunglass on or a sleepless night, it is the skin of this area that gets affected the most.
