The cheapest trick to get rid of inflammation and redness is ice cube. Ice cube brings down the temperature around the affected are, and reduces the blood flow which reduces the acne redness. Wrap the ice cubes in a clean and soft cloth, do not keep it in touch with one particular region for a prolonged period—keep shifting. One must never apply the ice directly to the skin, as it might burn the area.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil or any other essential oil is a natural antibiotic. Simply mix it with some coconut oil or almond oil and apply over the area affected by acne. Leave it overnight. Lemon juice

It’s a natural antibiotic and astringent. It reduces inflammation and redness, and curbs acne. Applying lemon juice over the acne kills the acne causing bacteria and cleans clogged pores. Dab a bit of lemon juice over the acne, leave it for 15 minutes or so, and rinse. Lemon also helps in restoring the pH balance of the skin.

Garlic has a pungent smell which might repel a lot of people; however, it is a foolproof remedy.

Cleanser

Rinsing the face with a gentle cleanser and cold water reduces the acne redness considerably. Do not exfoliate the skin for it may increase the redness, and aggravate the pimples. However, care must be taken while drying the skin. Use a soft piece of fabric, and only pat dry your skin. Always avoid cleanser with alcohol since they tend to dry out the skin, and are considerably harsher on the skin as well.

Milk of magnesia

The milk of magnesia loyalists swears by this remedy. It restores the pH balance of the skin, and also dries out the acne, thereby reducing the redness considerably. However, it is mostly effective for people with lighter skin tones.

Lotions or creams

Lotions or creams containing retinoids, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide also reduce redness. All these chemicals fight the acne causing bacteria, and also reduce redness by unclogging the pores. Cleanse the face thoroughly before applying it. Applying cream or lotion on a without cleansing the skin will only clog the follicles more, and increase the redness.

Cucumber

Cucumber’s mild astringent properties along with the fact that it is naturally cooling works wonders when it comes to reducing acne redness. Place thin slices of cucumber onto the acne covered area. Remove and rinse after 15-20 minutes.

Honey and yogurt mask

Mix equal portions of honey and full-fat yogurt, apply it onto the affected surface in a thin layer. Rinse with warm water. Both honey and yogurt are antibacterial, and the fat in the yogurt moisturizes the skin and keeps it hydrated.

Concealer

For a quick fix use concealer. Green concealer works the best. However, make tends to aggravate acne, so try to wash it off as soon as possible.
